A sculptural heart which acts as a magnetic visual beacon for audiences, ‘love IRL’ is an ode to the complexities and contrasts between human connections in the digital and real world.
Referencing the popular acronym IRL (in real life) in its title, the work encourages enjoyment of real-world moments whilst playfully and ironically coaxing audiences to pose, snap and share via their online life.
Composed entirely of intersecting linear lines fabricated using steel and coloured shards, the sculpture visualises what love in real life feels and looks like – colourful fragmented pieces that form a whole – whilst commenting on
the need for balance between real world and virtual interaction.
Originally commissioned by The Culture House Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire Council and exhibited as part of Canary Wharf Summer Lights 2022.
