Create snails, letter openers, keyrings, bottle openers on this course led by an award-winning blacksmith Alex Sowden in a heritage forge.
You will not only practise key techniques used in traditional forge work but also learn about the history and heritage of blacksmithing in the north east. All participants must agree on the project they wish to undertake upon arrival.
Sample products will be in the gift shop, so this can be discussed on arrival.
Half day courses
This is 1:1 tuition with an award-winning blacksmith in a heritage forge. You will not only practise key techniques used in traditional forge work but also learn about the history and heritage of blacksmithing in the north east.
- Either morning (10.00am to 1.00pm) or afternoon (2.00pm to 5.00pm).
- Lunch is not provided.
- For 1 person – £140.
- Participants will forge a rat-tailed toasting fork, rams head letter opener or an ornamental coat rack.
For groups of 2-3
£80 per person.

Full day courses
These are all 1:1 tuition for the full day. Lunch is included.

Full weekend course
Forging a traditional hanging bracket with an ornamental backing plate, heeled arm and traditional C scroll.
This intensive course that includes every skill the blacksmith will need to know, including forging your own rivets, butchering, guiding an upset, working with smith and striker, learning to scroll by hand and fire welding.
