Education visits

Planning your visit

Admission is free for teachers making a preliminary planning visit. Contact us to arrange a suitable date. Useful information for your visit:

Before your visit

School visits to Killhope involve a lot of time outdoors and an underground mine trip, the weather can be changeable and underfoot conditions can be wet and uneven.

Ensure your group is suitably clothed with coats and sturdy footwear and if you are going underground:

  • bring your own knee high wellington boots these are essential for a mine trip
  • spare socks, gloves and hats are always a good idea

Supervision

Each group (of 12/14) will be led by a Cultural Assistant, however each group will also require at least two members of school staff.

During your visit

On arrival you will be met by a Cultural Assistant and bags can be secured in the storage area, toilets will be located and housekeeping will be explained, including the fire assembly point and health and safety.

Lunchtime

The majority of schools bring packed lunches however we do have a café on site. If you wish to use the café on site you must pre-book.

We have several picnic tables on the site including one large communal table. If the weather is poor on the day of your visit we will try to locate you indoors where possible.

Shop

We have a gift shop that sells books, confectionary and souvenirs items. We can schedule a shop visit for your school as part of your trip.  This must be requested prior to arrival.

Opening times

Educational visits are available between April and the end of October. We recommend a 4 hours for a visit.
